Scott is deceptively quiet and shy. He often seems either mentally fogged or outright rude to those who meet or see him for the first time because of his tendency to maintain a poker face and quietly wait for the other person to reveal himself first. Scott is the sensitive young man. He has an inclination to be withdrawn and keep his thoughts to himself: one seldom knows what Scott is thinking, and if you try to guess, more times than not he'll completely surprise you with what's going on in that strange beautiful mind of his. Scott has a sense of humor all his own. It's dry, highly refined, and very personal. Scott can easily pull one's leg without ever being caught at it. He also enjoys basic, simple things. He dislikes intricate, sophisticated means, and likes to go straight to the core of any idea or concept. In strict conflict with this basic simplicity is Scott's one gaping eccentricity: his taste for the most unusual and confusing clothes. He often looks like a court jester with clashing colors, the brighter the better. Scott seldom opens up, even to those very close to him, thus appearing somewhat mysterious and secretive, when actually he is quite simple and uncomplicated. Music -(as well as his poetry and drawing) seems to be his most successful means of really communicating his true emotions. The transformation from the quiet, unassuming, small young man offstage to the dynamic, fiercely brillant lead singer onstage is both remarkable and beautiful. Scott has the ability to see through the pretentiousness or sham of people, but some-how has never learned to do it, and actually is almost as gullible as Terry. He wants to believe in things as they appear, even though his refined sensitivity denies it, enough so that he often fools himself. Scott also has an intense drive to succeed, and this not only helps provide for his excitement onstage, but also increases the efforts of The Rationals to improve and change. Although Scott acts casually about each job, actually he is never satisfied and is constantly looking for new ways, new directions, new goals. Scott is an artist's artist. Anything he sets his mind to, he will succeed at. He plays drums better than most professionals, is adept on both organ and piano, is capable of holding his own on guitar with Steve, or on the bass with Terry. He has also taught himself to play the harmonica, castanets, a succession of unusual percussion in-struments, and is presently toying with the idea of taking up the flute. Scott is an adept draftsman, painter, composer, writer, and so on, to an almost endless line of artistic talents. Whether it's a newly acquired interest in the supernatural or an intricate detailed sketch, you can trust Scott to always follow his imagination to its furthermost limits, and attempt to coordinate it with his everyday life. |
